Synopsis
Between Montevideo and Buenos Aires lies the estuary of the River Plate, the second-largest freshwater outlet in South America.
The region receives a significant share of the moisture “exported” by the Amazon through the so-called “flying rivers”, later converted into rainfall over vast areas of the continent and drained by dozens of rivers in the South, Southeast and Central-West regions of Brazil until it reaches the Atlantic Ocean.
The Expedition also presents two of the dozens of island communities located in the River Plate estuary, highlighting the historical, cultural and economic relationship of these populations with this river environment.
The documentary also addresses the Dolores Tornado, which occurred in 2016 in Uruguay, considered one of the most intense tornadoes ever recorded in South America.
